30 years of Piroscafo.
The story of an architectural and design masterpiece.

Everlasting design icon and architectural masterpiece, Piroscafo celebrates its 30th Anniversary. For the special occasion, Molteni & C. presents a re-edition of the renowned and versatile bookcase, in a completely original contemporary version. Outcome of the sapient
four-handed work conceived by Aldo Rossi and Luca Meda, Piroscafo is defined by the regular rhythmic arrangement of the windows. Its rigorous aesthetic appeal is inspired by the facade of the Umbria region administrative building in Perugia, and it still seamlessly enhances classic and modern atmospheres.

Considered one of the greatest Italian architects of the late twentieth century, Aldo Rossi wrote an important chapter in the history of Industrial design. He collaborated for many years with Molteni&C, becoming the author of furniture and creations for the Museum of Maastricht, the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa and the reconstruction of Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Today, his products are reckoned among the most iconic contemporary design pieces.

Architect and designer, Luca Meda graduated from the Art School of Brera and continued his studies in Germany in one of the world's most prestigious design institutes, the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm. Combining the passion for design with architecture, the artist has given life to iconic pieces such as the Piroscafo bookcase in collaboration with Aldo Rossi for Molteni&C.

Piroscafo was created in 1991. Walking through the centre of Fontivegge, Luca Meda and Aldo Rossi were stunned by the large glass facade of the former Perugina and found their inspiration to conceive the bookcase that became a true architectural masterpiece.
