Brionvega is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Castiglioni brothers’ Radiofonografo with a Limited Edition: 60 numbered pieces, handcrafted in Italy and reinterpreted by designer Elena Salmistraro.
An icon that transformed the stereo system
In September 1965, Brionvega unveiled the RR126 Radiofonografo by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. More than just a stereo system, it fused aesthetics and technology into a new design language, turning domestic listening into a cultural ritual. Its modular, unconventional design made it an instant symbol of modernity, earning a place in the world’s leading museums, from MoMA in New York to the Triennale Design Museum in Milan.
Sixty years of relevance
Six decades later, the Radiofonografo retains its evocative power. It continues to resonate with the present and inspire the future, attracting artists, creatives, and collectors across generations. It remains alive—an object in constant dialogue with time, timelessly contemporary while rooted in the history of Italian design.

Elena Salmistraro’s chromatic tribute
To celebrate the anniversary, Brionvega invited Elena Salmistraro to create a special edition that reimagines the Radiofonografo without changing its form or function. Her intervention is entirely chromatic: the cabinet appears for the first time in a deep, sophisticated green, a hue that evokes nature and renewal. The controls and speaker grilles are finished in a warm tobacco tone, while the base is rendered in matte black, grounding the piece with a sense of solidity. A smoked lid and turntable complete the design, bringing together lightness and depth in a carefully balanced composition.
This Limited Edition comprises only 60 numbered units, each crafted in Italy with the same passion that has defined Brionvega for six decades. A tribute that preserves the Castiglioni brothers’ design perfection while opening new perspectives through Salmistraro’s chromatic vision.
Faithful to the past, alive in the present, and looking to the future, the Brionvega Radiofonografo celebrates its 60th anniversary by beginning a new chapter in the story of this design icon.
«I had the honor of working on an object that, still today, represents an unsurpassed example of design and ingenuity. From the very beginning, my approach was guided by the utmost respect for the original work: a project that requires neither functional nor formal changes, because it is perfect in its essence.»
— Elena Salmistraro
