Design is a goldmine of special gifts perfect for Christmas: here is a selection of objects and accessories that are easy to fit into spaces of any style.
The period begins in which we are all looking for an interesting gift that makes the recipient feel special. It always seems like an impossible mission but there is a solution since today design offers so many ideas, and collections of home accessories that are iconic and discreet at the same time.
These gifts will immediately find their space in the homes for which they are intended because today the big design companies not only offer prestigious furnishings but also take particular care of the smaller and peripheral elements, not indispensable but fundamental to making the home welcoming, refined and with character.
Iconic and discreet lamps
Giving an iconic lamp is a concrete and symbolic gesture at the same time: you offer the gift of light alongside the beauty of a discreet and timeless object. Among the most interesting and delicate types is that of Akari, designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1951 and produced by Vitra.
The American designer, with Japanese origin and training, is inspired by classic oriental lamps in rice paper, giving an organic and contemporary style thanks to his new and sculptural shapes.
The reduced packaging that contains them also produces a precious surprise effect on the recipient of the gift and the same happens with Falkland, the iconic sock lamp designed by Bruno Munari in 1964 and now produced by Artemide.
It is a suspension composed of a series of seven rings of different diameters inserted into a filanca tube, a light bulb and an aluminum reflector: light and ethereal. Completely different but equally light, discreet and iconic is the Parentesi lamp designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzù in 1971 and produced by Flos, it is devoted to the essential: a taut steel cable on which the steel “parenthesis” is shaped with the relative light spot.
Appreciated for its versatility and the possibility of directing the light, it adapts to spaces of different sizes and styles. Among the table lamps, an absolute icon of Scandinavian design is the PH 2/1 in brass and pale pink designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen: it is characterized by an elegant brass stem and a luminous body in three-layered mouth-blown white opal glass, designed starting from the three-screen system he invented in 1925 and which became a recurring element in his most iconic lamps.
Younger but equally interesting is the Hymn lamp by the Japanese brand specializing in portable and rechargeable lights with a refined design. Hymn is a collection by Norm Architects and is the perfect synthesis between the traditional oil lamp and the most current technology: practical and evocative, it is imagined as a candle around which to gather, both indoors and outdoors.
Textile and table accessories
A warm and refined throw to keep on the sofa is a functional and decorative accessory, it also becomes precious if you choose the collection of a prestigious brand, such as Cassina which introduced the Toncloud line by Patricia Urquiola in quality yarns, geometric decorations and surprising color combinations.
For the same type of product, &Tradition asked Jaime Hayon to design one of his imaginary worlds and transform it into textile: this is how the Momento Telo line in organic cotton was born, ideal both as a light plaid and as a bedspread.
Two hands that meet as if to embrace but also as if to play percussion are the decorative motif of the Pose collection by ferm Living which includes cushions, rugs and blankets to be used also as tapestries, in warm material tones inspired by the earth.
The same color inspiration characterizes the Ufficio collection by Giobagnara for Poltrona Frau composed of trays and other accessories perfect not only for the desk.
The Nastri series by Missoni, a historic company that has based its identity on experimentation and chromatic innovation, is instead brightly colored. From cushions to plaids to table art: many ideas for a welcome gift that stands the test of time.
And talking about conviviality, there is another interesting idea for the perfect gift for the season: the Metal champagne coupe by Louise Roe, with a retro charm, inviting you to toast in company.
