Roberto Palomba talks about the news for Talenti

Talenti is an undisputed point of reference in the outdoor scenario and its collections are always among the most sought after of the Milan design week. It happens again this year and among the new collections the Flaw system and the Grace armchair stand out, tha lattest having also an indoor version. A detail, this, that reveals the great novelty of the company: the debut in the indoor whose collections could not fail to be entrusted to the Palomba+Serafini studio.

Roberto Palomba talks about the genesis of this new great project with these words: “they are objects that speak a common language, objects that tell of a well-being of living, that speak not of the luxury of things, but of the luxury of time and space and therefore this was a bit of the paradigm that we wanted to create”.

So what are the ideas behind Flaw and Grace, the two new outdoor collections for Talenti?

We are a bit of a child of the modernist path, and that construction of a cage that let the project breathe and then contained the cushions was also very useful for outdoor furniture.

We then added some elements such as cast aluminum for the structural elements and a teak band stolen a bit from the nautical world, which becomes a decorative element, but in our own way since we do really little decoration. This tactile, material, warm element of wood, in contrast with the cast aluminum element, seemed very consistent with the outdoor world. To this we added a textile that we designed for the project, with a stripe that is also a bit of a Greek key, with a warp and weft structure that makes it very three-dimensional and therefore also very special.

You have a very clear idea of the outdoors, how did you focus it?

I always say that we are the youngest of the old and the oldest of the young, so this somewhat borderline position has allowed us to explore the emerging categories. First the world of the bathroom, which was a somewhat languishing part of the house, and then the outdoor world, and they were the two rediscoveries in the world of furniture that saw us as quite at the forefront.

Moving on to Grace, this armchair has an indoor version and an outdoor version. How are the two projects connected?

Grace is made of two souls: an outdoor soul made of synthetic wicker and in the future we would also like to bring it with natural wicker to create an indoor version, but with the poetic part of the weave. And in my opinion it is very beautiful because there is this theme of the ribbon that folds on itself generating this structure.

Here too we are going to do a work of citation of what has been an experience of the great classics because we believe that connecting the culture of design is very important to imagine the Talenti indoor that we would like to become a new great classic in the furniture panorama in the future. This game of curves that follow one another needs a tactility that is consistent with the idea of movement. For the outdoor, we used the synthetic wicker weave while for the indoor we worked with a natural leather covering with a vegetable tan.

How did the indoor project come about?

It took us two years to put together a first draft of the collection and we are preparing to launch the actual collection on the market and we already have some reservations thanks to the Milan presentation.

We have not moved the outdoor collections indoors but created a real indoor division that has its own autonomy because the objects are constructively completely different. We wanted to create something amazing to serve users who want a simple, comfortable, pleasant home, with hints of personality and irony.

In a certain sense, for this occasion, you have returned to asking yourself what we need inside the home. Have you questioned the needs?

We understood first of all that we need good products, simple, with an understandable aesthetic, emotional and empathetic, but at the same time not made for a season, after all, seasonality is not in our DNA, we do not make style like fashion. If I buy one of these products, I put it in my home, I live it for all the years that I can live it happily because I do not want to replace it with anything else.

This is the characteristic that we absolutely wanted to bring into this collection and therefore simplicity, great quality in the realization and then this idea of a welcoming, pleasant, modern home. So create the foundations to then give each of us the possibility to personalize it. This is the theme of this house: the pleasantness of living it, the simplicity and also the intent to create that sensuality which is the hallmark of our work.
