The Pillow Sofa, designed by Muller Van Severen, produced by KASSL Editions, and reimagined by BD Barcelona, opens a new chapter at the crossroads of design, fashion, and contemporary art. Starting August 21, 2025, it will be available on Mohd.it, among the official retailers.
Originally launched in 2021 as an extension of KASSL Editions’ iconic Pillow Bag, the sofa immediately embodied a language of freedom and modularity. Today, thanks to BD Barcelona’s reinterpretation, the project evolves further, retaining its playful spirit while gaining new structural strength and a more sculptural silhouette.
Among the most significant novelties is the introduction of black lacquered cotton, a signature material of KASSL Editions.
Originally born from production offcuts, this fabric has since become an emblem of sustainability, durability, and distinctive aesthetics. Its glossy, tactile surface is not a mere detail—it is a true mark of identity, transforming the sofa into a charismatic and unmistakable object.
As Muller Van Severen founders and designers Fien and Hannes note:
“We’ve always been drawn to shine; the reflecting surface brings the piece to life. Every fabric gives the Pillow Sofa its own unique character, but there is something especially bold and elegant about this glossy lacquered cotton. It’s full of personality and undeniably chic.”
Between Playfulness and Sculpture
The Pillow Sofa is made up of independent, colorful cushions held together by straps integrated into a tubular steel frame. This modular structure allows endless configurations, blurring the boundaries between comfort and creativity.
BD Barcelona’s reinterpretation introduces a simplified modular system and optimized assembly, enhancing the balance between functionality and style.
As Otto Canalda, Design Director of BD Barcelona, explains:
“We’ve simplified the modular system and optimized assembly, enhancing its bold silhouette and playful character. Now, the Pillow is a dynamic, sculptural piece that invites playful expression.”

The Pillow Sofa is more than a piece of furniture—it is a symbol of the intersection between fashion and design. It stems from KASSL Editions’ philosophy, a brand that has translated the material experimentation of fashion into a universal language for the home.
As Ilse Cornelissens, co-founder of KASSL Editions, states:
