A young family, an adult couple and a designer tell their homes furnished with Vitra
Vitra is a brand of great prestige, yet its iconic furnishings, designed by internationally renowned designers, lend themselves to furnishing real and lived-in homes. Homes that are not only beautiful to look at but also welcoming, perfect for the daily life of a family, as well as for an adult couple or a single. The ability to combine design with depth and usability is in fact a prerogative of the brand which over the years has been able to build an image and a profile to which it can successfully remain faithful.
A profile made of great concreteness, as confirmed by the company’s choice to tell about itself through the faces of the people who have chosen its furnishings for their home. People who recognize themselves in the brand, despite having different lives and different homes.
“You can create a space and furnish it with taste, but the space only comes to life when people interact with it”: these are the words of Chris Glass, an American designer who lives in Berlin. In his house with an industrial mood he loves to collect and show the memories of his international life. He compares his home to a moodboard, a collage of objects, fabrics and colors that inspire his home life. Among the Vitra furnishings in his house there is also the Wire chair: designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1951, it is now one of the undisputed icons of the company. The structure is in steel rod while the padded part is now available in the new leather tanned with the olive leaves that fall during the olive harvest. Around the EM table by Jean Prouvé (on the cover) there are the Shell Chairs, designed by the Eames in 1951. The Potence wall lamp fits perfectly into the whole thanks to its “workshop” style but at the same time refined.
“The design must be discreet and the function of high quality: only in this way can the furniture age while maintaining its value”. Barbara Happe and Martin Fischer bought in 1994 a house designed by Walter Gropius, founding father of the Bauhaus school and supporter of the importance of combining functionality and beauty by offering a more essential and innovative aesthetic model than in the past. The house was in a total state of neglect and the couple healed its wounds over time, respecting Gropius’s design intention. The functional vocation does not sacrifice comfort and hospitality, as evidenced by the presence of enveloping seats and generous sofas: Grand Repos and Ottoman invite you to relax and are now available in the new Nubia finish, a bouclé yarn that enhances its softness and informal declination.
“We love furniture that lasts a long time, that interacts with us and is not disposable. And we will also have to like it in 20 years ”. This is the thought of Simon and Franziska Jüttner, a couple with two children who bought and renovated a farm in Germany, transforming it into a sustainable family home. And the furnishings chosen are sustainable, because they are durable both from a structural and an aesthetic point of view. Furniture that remains current and beautiful over the years, overcoming the trends of the moment. The Hal lounge chair and ottoman by Jasper Morrison, comfortable and compact, becomes the heart of a relaxation corner to be enjoyed alone or in company. Declined in material and reassuring colors, it is an element that gives warmth and intimacy to the environment. In the dining area, around the EM Table by Jean Prouvé, there are the Standard chairs by the same designer that welcome family lunches, work moments and creative games for children.
