In the Japanese tradition of hanami, people pause together to admire the cherry blossoms in full bloom \u2014 a simple gesture, yet one capable of turning a garden into a shared gathering place. It is an ancient idea of togetherness that Slamp<\/a><\/strong>‘s collections carry into far more contemporary architecture \u2014 hotel lobbies, restaurant dining rooms, offices, retail spaces<\/strong> \u2014 where lighting a space means, first and foremost, drawing people together within it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is no coincidence that Hanami<\/strong>, the chandelier designed by Adriano Rachele<\/a><\/strong>, takes its name from that very ritual: its flowers, hand-pleated one by one in Lentiflex\u00ae<\/strong> \u2014 the material Slamp uses to recreate the cut facets of a diamond \u2014 were conceived for the home, yet lend themselves just as naturally to marking a public threshold: a restaurant entrance, a quiet corner in a hotel lobby, the moment a guest knows they have arrived. This is where the difference between an object and a contract project lies: a light fixture can’t simply be beautiful to look at \u2014 it must guide the eye, marking a passage through a space designed to welcome those experiencing it for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The compositional grammar that runs through everything Slamp makes almost always rests on a single, repeated element that gains volume and meaning through accumulation. It is in the shift to contract<\/strong> spaces that this logic faces its most demanding test. Aria<\/strong>, designed by Zaha Hadid<\/a><\/strong>, is made up of fifty layers that wrap around the light source to form a three-dimensional volume \u2014 a depth that shifts depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The same fluid tension that defined the architect’s language is transferred here into a suspended fixture that reads as much like architecture<\/strong> as it does a lighting object, equally at home in refined private interiors<\/strong> as in hotel lobbies<\/strong>, restaurant dining rooms or museums<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aria Infinita<\/strong>, created for the tenth anniversary of the partnership between Slamp and Zaha Hadid Design<\/strong>, takes this same idea beyond the scale of a single fixture: its luminous body traces sinusoidal waves<\/strong> through space, wrapped in polycarbonate layers that are all different from one another. Made to measure, it is designed for large-scale installations. More than a chandelier, it stands as an architecture of light<\/strong> \u2014 a natural response to hospitality settings<\/strong> and contemporary contexts<\/strong> that call for a singular, unrepeatable gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If in Aria this layering becomes sculpture, in Hugo<\/strong> and Modula<\/strong> it becomes a tool. Both collections draw on the same distinctive expertise<\/strong> Slamp has developed in layering materials<\/strong>, but adapt it to different needs, striking a different balance between spectacle and function. Hugo \u2014 winner of the Red Dot Product Design Award, designed by Slamp’s in-house creative team \u2014 translates that layering into a water-like effect<\/strong>: a fluid light that maintains visual comfort even in a project’s most delicate areas, such as the mirror areas of a bathroom<\/strong> or the worktops of a professional kitchen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Modula<\/strong>, designed by Elisa Giovannoni<\/a><\/strong>, takes that same layering into a more measured register: alongside the soft diffusion of Lentiflex\u00ae, it adds a continuous line of light<\/strong> running along the fixture’s spine, responding precisely to the safety and visual comfort requirements typical of workspaces. Where Hugo seeks spectacle, Modula seeks function \u2014 and it is precisely in this counterpoint that the versatility demanded by contract projects becomes clear: spaces that must answer to aesthetic and functional needs<\/strong> at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is, finally, a point where the logic of layering stops being an internal technique of the fixture and becomes the constructive principle of the space itself: Nuvem<\/strong>, the modular system<\/strong> designed by Miguel Arruda<\/a><\/strong>. Its hexagonal elements, each one square metre in size, connect by hand<\/strong> and extend in every direction, composing luminous walls and ceilings of potentially unlimited scale. A push-and-pull system<\/strong> allows the height of each module to be adjusted once the piece is suspended, letting the composition collapse or stretch like a living surface<\/strong>, with a rhythm that changes from one setting to the next. “We didn’t make a lamp, we made a luminous ceiling,” Arruda himself said \u2014 a line that captures, better than any technical description, the difference between a fixture and an infrastructure of light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
