Eugeni Quitllet has an optimistic vision of design

Eugeni Quitllet defines himself as an “industrial dreamer”, an original expression that perfectly sums up his approach to design. Here, industry is understood as a space for technological research and innovation that lend themselves to giving the right shape and structure to his dreamlike ideas. There is no lack of surprise in his projects and it is easy to read the weight that imagination and creative freedom have in his professional path. In this context, technology is not a limit but a platform to make his ideas concrete and apply them to the collections, always surprising, that he proposes.

With a particular vocation for indoor/outdoor dynamics as can be seen in his fruitful collaboration with Vondom for which he has signed some of the most disruptive collections.

How did the collaboration with Vondom start and what do you appreciate the most about this company?

We both come from the high-quality plastic world and our experience in challenging technology and know-how to bring the best product in terms of design, style,  and ergonomic to the people is our common goal. As we are very young and our spirit is fresh as well as our creativity it makes the perfect match. Thanks to their intense passion in performing in the outdoor world to bring the best to this life experience and my unique and personal vision of design to bring magic to object that we live with every day has given a large number of great products that are timeless and modern since the first to the last.

Could you tell us the ideas behind your recent collections for Vondom: Madison and Africa?

For me the world and places are very important in any experience and Design language that must be universally understood. The energy from the place I work from, my experience i like to share that feeling of freedom through my design. Africa collection is a great success because its original simplicity that can live in any world and places.

Madison is my personal tribute to Madison Av. New York City my Hometown… I like to capture the surrounding atmosphere that matches with my mood and creativity.

The Tulum collection is also very iconic: what kind of outdoor space do you imagine for it?

Tulum is more than just a collection it’s a state of mind; I designed it to bring a spirit of freedom to that special moment that we like to share with friends and family, it’s a very architectural collection that creates easy spaces and can adapt to any style. It’s designed to resist any weather condition with the strongest performance and at the same time give you the quality of indoor furniture, for me it’s the biggest challenge to do so, everlasting design.

If you had to imagine the perfect home, what features would it have?

As an Ibizenco that I am, I grew up on the beach with just a “Pareo”… that’s all you need.

I like that you can feel my design on your skin and feel free… the perfect place for me is the in out area of Architecture and Nature.

Born in Ibiza, graduated in Barcelona, based in NY: what is your relationship with these cities, and what do they give you in terms of inspiration?

Light, Sea, and love … I love the human scale of those places and the relation with people and culture, the dream and reality that shaped those cities with people from all over the world…  my design is an optimistic vision of the future, we shall all put our energy for positive propose always!
