Material, continuity and design process: a contemporary home in Novara

Material, continuity and design process: a contemporary home in Novara

Spread across three levels, the residence takes shape through a unified design vision in which materials, light, surfaces, and furnishings work together to define a cohesive language.

Mohd supports the interior design process through a curated selection and coordination of finishes, flooring, color palettes, and bespoke solutions. From the kitchen to the bathrooms, through to storage systems and the walk-in closet, each choice contributes to building continuity and coherence. Rather than defining a fixed outcome, the project develops a shared design framework capable of accommodating variation while preserving the overall identity of the home.

With Mohd as a partner in the interior design process, the project establishes a coherent balance between finishes, flooring, color palettes, bespoke solutions, and spaces still in evolution.

The entrance immediately introduces the project’s design language.

The staircase, conceived as a compact and rigorous volume, establishes a continuous material presence that extends across floors and vertical surfaces.

Carefully calibrated, grazing light moves along the solid planes, revealing their texture, while darker, reflective elements shape the transition between levels, defining a continuous spatial sequence.

Lighting supports the project through a precise and layered approach, where diffused light, focused accents, and integrated lines shape volumes, transitions, and surfaces.

Rather than simply completing the spaces, light guides their perception, highlighting materiality, enhancing depth, and creating a continuous spatial experience across the different levels of the home.

A palette of warm neutral tones, enriched by tactile contrasts, defines the living environment.

Natural stone surfaces, from travertine to onyx, introduce depth and subtle variation, while wooden elements bring an organic, grounded warmth. Bouclé and chenille fabrics create a sense of layered softness, balanced by more structured textures and refined finishes.

The living area unfolds as a measured space, where the arrangement of furnishings and the selection of materials establish a balance between comfort and formal precision.

Warm neutral tones shape an enveloping atmosphere, while the continuity of surfaces reinforces the perception of a fluid, uninterrupted interior. Here, the project reaches a more resolved expression, where each element contributes to a cohesive composition.

The kitchen follows the same logic through a linear, compact layout. Volumes are reduced to their essential form, and continuous surfaces emphasize the architectural clarity of the space. Materials, selected for their tactile qualities, create a discreet yet solid presence, while integrated lighting highlights planes and junctions, enhancing the overall legibility.

Finishes establish a material continuity that runs throughout the residence, alternating natural stones, engraved textures, and more uniform surfaces.

From Gris du Marais to Silk Georgette and Crema d’Orcia, the project operates through controlled variations, where flooring, thresholds, portals, and walls contribute to defining spaces that are coherent, calibrated, and distinct.

In the bathroom serving the living area, two proposals define distinct atmospheres.

The version in grey natural stone creates a compact, intimate setting, where the depth of the material is enhanced by focused lighting.

In contrast, the cream-toned natural stone introduces a brighter, more diffused atmosphere, offering a more open perception of space.

The first-floor bathroom is defined by a carefully calibrated composition, where continuous surfaces and material interruptions establish the rhythm of the space.

Textures, at times geometric, at times more uniform, interact with integrated lighting that enhances their depth, resulting in a measured and coherent environment.

The walk-in closet represents a fully resolved part of the project, where technical requirements are translated into an ordered and legible system.

The composition of modules, the presence of a central island, and the alternation between closed units, drawer systems, and open elements define a space designed for precise organization, while maintaining continuity with the overall language of the home.

Finishes, calibrated in warm neutral tones, relate seamlessly to the rest of the residence, while integrated lighting guides the space and emphasizes the depth of the modules.

The design of the walk-in closet, as well as the home’s other storage systems, is developed through a bespoke approach tailored to the client’s needs: a custom system that accommodates different requirements through dedicated configurations, transforming storage into a fully integrated architectural presence.

As a whole, the project maintains a clear identity while engaging with a range of design possibilities.

Material, light, and proportion become tools through which variations are explored without fragmentation, shaping an interior defined as much by process as by outcome, finding its strength in the continuity of its language and in the precision with which these variations are articulated.
