An evening at Mohd Officina brought together architects and designers to explore Ferm Living’s vision of outdoor living through design, conversation, and conviviality.
Today, outdoor living is no longer simply about being outside. It has become a way of inhabiting space differently; creating environments where people gather, slow down, and reconnect with nature and one another.
This was the spirit that characterized the evening of March 5 at Mohd Officina in Milan, where Mohd hosted an event in collaboration with Ferm Living focused on the culture of outdoor living. Mohd Officina is a space where architecture, design, and atmosphere come together to create an experience that feels both curated and spontaneous.
Guests arrived at the entrance to be welcomed by a long table already set for dinner. This first gesture immediately defined the atmosphere of the evening. The table was set in a way that created the feeling of a spring or summer dinner, when days grow longer and people are drawn to eating outdoors. The atmosphere of the table was carefully curated, from ceramics to textiles, creating a sense of effortless elegance. Ferm Living’s outdoor lamps added a sense of intimacy to the space. As natural light began to fade, the atmosphere became almost crepuscular, like a spontaneous dinner in a garden.
“We create furniture meant to be lived with—pieces that help you love your home not just for how it looks, but for how you experience life within it.”
— Ferm Living
The experience allowed visitors to encounter the objects in the most natural way possible, as if they were already part of everyday life at home. Beyond the entrance, the setting extended into the adjacent garden, where additional pieces from the outdoor collection were placed among the greenery. Moving from the indoor space to the garden, visitors had the opportunity to experience the furniture in a real setting, reinforcing the idea that outdoor spaces are extensions of the home. Over the course of the evening, architects, designers, curators, and clients gathered around the table and in the garden, and the conversation flowed around design, nature, and life.
For designer Christian Pellizzari, the renewed attention toward outdoor living reflects something deeper than a passing trend.
“We live in an era where there is a lot of attention on outdoor living and I think it’s like a necessity. Nature is a fundamental source of inspiration and energy. I don’t think it’s a trend, it’s a human necessity to be connected with nature and the outside.”
The dinner itself became one of the highlights of the evening. The food, fresh, light, and carefully prepared in every detail, reflected the seasonal atmosphere of the gathering. Each dish seemed to be intentionally in keeping with the atmosphere of the evening, simple yet refined, reminiscent of a family dinner shared outdoors. The conversations around the table seemed to flow naturally, producing a convivial atmosphere reminiscent of those cinematic moments in which food and people are inextricably linked, like the joyous scenes of shared meals in Big Night or the intimate moments in Julie & Julia, in which the act of eating together is a celebration of life itself.
For architect Eden Nimni, outdoor living is also a reflection of a very personal dimension:
“Outdoor living is really about how we want to live. It’s your peaceful zone, the place where your personal life and experiences take shape. It becomes your own sanctuary.”
This idea resonated strongly throughout the evening. The furniture and objects did not appear as static design pieces, but as quiet facilitators of human interaction; elements that framed the conversations happening around them. According to Karin Benemark, Ferm Living’s vision of outdoor living embraces precisely this holistic approach.
“Today it’s not only furniture, we have portable lamps, plant holders, outdoor textiles. You can really create a whole room outside.”
By the end of the evening, the table had become the true center of the event; a place where guests lingered, exchanged ideas, and shared stories long after dinner began. More than a presentation of a collection, the gathering at Mohd Officina became a lived demonstration of what outdoor living represents today: a space for connection, creativity, and conviviality, where design quietly supports the moments that matter most, those spent together around a table, somewhere between the inside and the open air.
The Rouli collection introduces a modular seating system defined by softly rounded volumes that echo the gentle rhythm of waves. Its name derives from the French word roulis, a reference to the subtle rolling motion of the sea. Designed as a flexible seating landscape, Rouli is composed of individual modules that can be arranged in multiple ways, allowing the composition to shift naturally with the space and the moments of gathering it hosts.
Complementing this modular language, the Desert collection explores a more enveloping vision of outdoor comfort. Slender structural frames support generous cushions, creating lounge settings that invite slower rhythms and relaxed moments in the open air. The balance between light structures and soft upholstery gives the pieces a welcoming presence, while materials developed for outdoor environments ensure durability without losing the tactile warmth associated with indoor living.
Outdoor dining finds a complete expression in the Dapple collection, which extends the outdoor proposal beyond seating to include tables designed for open-air gatherings. Rounded silhouettes and delicate perforations give the pieces a light, almost graphic presence in the landscape. Crafted from powder-coated galvanized steel, the collection includes dining tables, low tables, and a family of seating elements — chairs, lounge chairs, and benches — that share the same visual language. Generous proportions and relaxed profiles combine everyday practicality with a refined sense of visual lightness.
