Contemporary earthy: furnishings and accessories in earthy tones

27 May 2022

Visual and tactile textures for furnishings that bring us closer to the earth and bring the elegance both indoor and outdoor

Earthy colors are a rising trend, but what is meant by this expression and which palettes are we referring to? “Earthy” is a characteristic that refers to touch rather than sight and refers to color, which recalls the ability to evoke a sensorial stimulus that is not limited to the gaze. The earthy color is a color that we can “touch with our eyes”, but not only. With this expression we refer to a palette inspired by nature, not artificial and therefore basically neutral. From lighter shades such as rope and sand to darker shades such as terra cotta and mud: soothing and welcoming colors, declined both for the inside and the outside. More than a trend, the use of material colors perhaps tells of a need to get closer to a more natural and less artificial dimension of style, to tune the home with the planet. This applies, in particular, to outdoor spaces where the earthy colors make it possible to create welcoming spaces that blend seamlessly into the natural context.

BM0865 daybed by Børge Mogensen for Carl Hansen & Søn

Wood, canvas, leather details on the cushions: the BM0865 daybed by Børge Mogensen for Carl Hansen & Søn (on the cover) perfectly summarizes the attraction to natural materials and colors. Style is the quintessence of the Scandinavian approach, that knowing how to combine essential lines and comfort and letting the materials conquer the scene. Modular, the daybed can be combined with various accessory cushions to create various configurations.

Bamboo by Tine K Home

Natural materials and earthy colors are the perfect combination that also emerges from the Bamboo collection by Tine K Home. The Danish brand declines the Scandinavian style using bamboo from sustainable sources that do not use fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. The elements of the collection are all devoted to outdoor relaxation: beds, including double beds, modular sofas, large seats, deck chairs and tables create a complete ensemble for the outdoor living room.

Spanish Chair by Børge Mogensen for Fredericia

The visual texture of the leather in combination with the wood of the structure makes this seat the furniture of choice for those looking for a material mood and neutral colors. The Spanish chair is a Danish design icon that encompasses Mediterranean influences in leather processing techniques, as its name suggests.

Adell by Lievore + Altherr Desile Park for Arper

Soft and material colors that draw inspiration from the elements of nature characterize the Adell collection by Arper. The shape of the seat is that of a pebble smoothed by time and water, the visual consistency that of soft moss that grows along the banks of a slow stream. This is why Adell welcomes the body and makes it feel at ease, as in its natural habitat.

Desert chair by Ferm Living

The Ferm Living Desert chair is a young but already iconic deck chair. Thanks above all to the choice of fabrics and the color palette inspired, as the name suggests, by the colors of the desert. They are all shades of sand and earth, up to a light rope color. Made interesting by very dark geometric inserts, in the same color as the metal structure.

Dala and Mu by Dedon

Earthy colors for the outdoors: Dedon declines them in a sophisticated way in the Dala and Mu collections. Dala is a lounge seating system designed by Stephen Burks: the cords of Dedon yarns intertwine around the aluminum structure, creating a melange of colors inspired by nature. Designed by Toan Nguyen, Mu is a modular system to create a perfect outdoor living room. The cushions are available in a wide range of colors in which there are many earthy colors.
