A 1970s apartment merging iconic design and contemporary comfort

A 1970s apartment merging iconic design and contemporary comfort

Bridging past and present, SOPRU Studio has brought new life to an apartment overlooking the timeless panorama of San Pietro. Located in a building designed by architect Venturino Ventura in 1969, the renovation captures the spirit of the original architecture while embracing modern living.

The apartment was revived through a meticulous intervention focused on preserving Ventura’s distinctive architectural identity while seamlessly introducing modern comfort and functionality. Having remained untouched for over two decades, the space was a true time capsule: from its tiled walls to its two-tone fixtures, every detail seemed to tell a story frozen in time.

Through bespoke solutions, a curated selection of furnishings from Mohd, and pieces with retro charm, SOPRU Studio reimagined each space with a tailored approach.

The result is a harmonious blend of vintage elements, iconic design, and modern touches, creating a space that seamlessly merges history and contemporary living.

The dining area strikes a harmonious balance between the charm of the original design and contemporary accents. At its center, a table with sleek, essential lines and a lacquered lime green top creates a vibrant contrast against the warmth of the American walnut parquet.

Minimalist chairs, featuring black frames and blue fabric cushions, bring a sense of restraint and lightness to the space. Overhead, an organically designed glass chandelier adds a dramatic focal point while maintaining an airy elegance. Completing the scene, a sculptural centerpiece on the table and artfully positioned wall sconces create a seamless dialogue between art and functionality.

Fluid transitions between rooms are achieved through sliding wooden doors with glass inserts. These not only reflect the surrounding space but also amplify natural light, enhancing the room’s brightness and drawing attention to its carefully curated details.

The living room unfolds as a bright and inviting space, where natural light streaming through expansive windows interacts seamlessly with luxurious materials and carefully considered details.

A bespoke marble fireplace takes center stage with its sculptural design, offering a striking visual presence and an air of refined elegance.

The furnishings blend soft, welcoming forms with bold, character-rich details, striking a perfect balance between comfort and sophistication. The warmth of the walnut parquet flooring, laid in a geometric pattern inspired by the 1970s, adds depth and texture, contrasting harmoniously with the neutral tones and natural materials of the decor.

Through the large windows, the lush terrace becomes an integral part of the room, creating a sense of openness and a continuous connection to the outdoors.

Carefully designed to honor the building’s architectural legacy, the kitchen preserves the essence of Ventura’s original vision while seamlessly integrating contemporary functionality.

The iconic strip tile cladding has been maintained, serving as the space’s visual centerpiece.
The custom stainless steel kitchen introduces a refined contrast to the 1970s tiles, its clean and precise lines further elevated by the natural light streaming through the windows. This interplay of light and material creates dynamic reflections and a soft, diffuse brightness throughout the space.

Adjacent to the kitchen, a cozy dining nook adds a touch of warmth and intimacy. Featuring an upholstered bench and a stone-topped table, it offers the perfect setting for relaxed, informal moments.

The bedroom exudes an intimate and cocooning ambiance, where dark tones on the walls and ceiling envelop the space, creating a serene and cozy retreat.

Soft, diffused lighting, anchored by a sculptural hanging lamp, introduces a delicate contrast, harmonizing the interplay of light and shadow.

Every detail—from carefully selected furnishings to the choice of rich, tactile materials—has been thoughtfully curated to foster relaxation, embodying the tailored approach that defines the entire project. The result is a true sanctuary, where design becomes a pure sensory experience.

In the bathroom, chromatic harmony takes center stage. The washbasin and bathtub, crafted in purple terracotta composite, serve as the focal points, their rich texture offering a refined contrast to the vibrant lime green of the storage cabinet.

The walls, adorned with tiles featuring slender vertical lines, bring a sense of lightness and order, balancing the boldness of the color palette. Overhead, a decorative chandelier with floral details adds a subtle, delicate touch, elegantly tying together the composition of this thoughtfully designed space.
