The project, curated by Studio Costa Architetti, concerns an apartment in the heart of the historic center of Catania. The supply of the furnishings was made in collaboration with Mohd. During the skilful renovation, the space was re-functionalized by delimiting the living area, placed in a central position, with respect to the sleeping area and services. Functional needs transformed into aesthetic details.
The simple division of the rooms meant a better arrangement of the different areas. Great importance has been entrusted to the wall cladding, much of it was in fact covered with mirrors, which not only conceal access to services within them, but also give the apartment greater visual depth. The other part of the apartment was instead covered with a large wooden wardrobe, containing but not limited to, as this leads to the sleeping area.
The object of study was the function of light, exploiting natural radiation, which made it possible to move towards a choice of dark tones for the kitchen. While in the entrance and in the sleeping area the colors are light, with a prevalence of amaranth. In the sleeping area, on the other hand, the dominant color is burgundy which, together with the wallpaper from Wall&Deco, gives a romantic touch.
The apartment contains essential and iconic furnishings. Cassina‘s Utrecht Point armchairs give a touch of color and warm the environment. A contemporary reinterpretation of an icon, designed by Patricia Urquiola, in a limited edition of 90 pieces, exclusively for Mohd, in a special fabric designed by Paul Smith.
The Fluttua bed by Lago, the bed suspended on one leg, together with the String Light sphere suspension lamp by Michael Anastassiades for Flos, were chosen to give a sense of suspension and fluidity to the furnishings.
The living room is illuminated by the Atollo
table lamp by OLuce, designed by Vico Magistretti in 1977, which transforms a domestic object into an abstract sculpture of perfect proportions. We design spaces that stand the test of time, finding innovative solutions tailored to your needs.
