Irreverent, pop and ironic: kitchen accessories in the limelight

7 January 2022

Drag Queens Collection by Rosenthal

Pop culture and the desire to have fun inspire a new generation of kitchen accessories and utensils, for a user experience full of personality

It is the right time to be amazed and snatch a smile from kitchen utensils and accessories that combine functionality with a strong personality and an innovative style. The most recent collections in this category are in fact entrusted to a research design that expresses itself with an openly pop but still refined language. Brave, decorative and functional, these objects are perfect as gifts but also to treat oneself. We imagine them, for example, in a kitchen open to the living area as scenographic elements to season a performance in the kitchen to remember. As well as on a table with attention to the smallest details to which we intend to give an unexpected twist, snatching a smile of amazement from the guests. The inspiration is varied: from pop culture to cinema, from geometric composition to the reinterpretation of classic decorative motifs.

With this collection (on the cover) it renew his hyper-classic image to explore the glamorous and irreverent subculture proposed by photographer Martin Schoeller. Hybrid by Seletti

The CtrlZack design studio has managed to blend classic and pop into one element. By recovering the decorations of the most traditional porcelain and combining them together in a collection that leaves you pleasantly disoriented. This healthy disorientation brings a touch of refined irony to the table and is a way to make it more lively without losing elegance. On closer inspection it is not a simple formal exercise but also a way to bring East and West together, combining typically Chinese decorations with those of an English style.

La Boule Memphis by Villeroy & Boch

Closed it looks like a postmodern sculpture, open it reveals its functional nature as a plate service consisting of two bases, two tops, two other serving plates and a tray. La Boule is a project by Villeroy & Boch present in various versions, in this one it is a tribute to the colors and recurring shapes of the aesthetics of the Memphis group, the collective that brought a wave of creativity to design in the 1980s.

Join Facet and Join Bubble by Finell

Versatile and with a fresh design, the Join Facet and Join Bubble placemats by Finell are made of silicone and therefore easy to clean and heat resistant. They can also be used as trivets but the real novelty is the possibility of combining several placemats to create a runner or new and tailor-made compositions.
