Comfort and discreet elegance identify the new furniture and lighting collections just presented
The dates of the Salone del Mobile have been set for September, but April remains the month of previews, the “New Year’s eve of Design” as Tom Dixon defined it in the past. This means that companies, injecting a dose of trust and beauty in the sector, wanted to present the latest news to the world, through one-to-one meetings, digital presentations and other forms of communication that we are pleased to consider as teasers of that which will be the real design week that we are all looking forward to. The previews presented by the companies confirm an ever greater alignment of the outdoors with indoor, a discreet taste, attention to comfort and small but intense accents of color, even for lighting. Let’s see some of them in detail.
Cassina’s total perspective
In 2021 Cassina confirms its intention to involve all the rooms of the house, or almost, in its collections. Without forgetting the outdoors, the great protagonist of the moment. This year’s novelties are signed by Michael Anastassiades, Jeffrey Bernett, Philippe Starck and of course Patricia Urquiola, the company’s art director. Also interesting are the re-editions of projects by Vico Magistretti and Afra and Tobia Scarpa and the Danish architect Bodil Kjær. In the image, the Volage EX-S bed by Philippe Starck.
Paola Lenti’s green profile between natural and ultra-durable materials
Paola Lenti‘s Eres collection is a focus on the beauty of natural materials: linen, hemp, bamboo, raffia, igusa and abaca. They require some extra attention and to be protected from the most aggressive atmospheric agents, but they return this care in the form of beauty, comfort and atmosphere. In the images the Hiro and Frei lines. Last December, Paola Lenti had already underlined her sustainable profile with the Twiggy yarn free of chemical additives and totally recyclable and with Diade a patented material that is waterproof, easily sanitized and washable, durable and resistant, which does not retain moisture and which can be used outdoors even in demanding conditions.
Molteni & C. reissues Giò Ponti and presents a hyper-efficient work station
Molteni & C. travels between past and future by reissuing the Round D.154.5 armchair by Gio Ponti: a seat that expresses the designer’s style and inventiveness but above all the topicality of his formal approach. In terms of new projects, Molteni & C. proposes an innovative approach to working with the Touch Down Unit designed by Studio Klass. It is a work station originally designed for work environments but now transformed for domestic contexts. Discreet and versatile, it is equipped with a rechargeable battery to which PCs and other devices can be connected via USB.
Color, organic shapes and softness for B&B Italia
Versatile, informal and compact: the Noonu sofa by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia well describes what we really need right now. Furnishings with a vision, which in this specific case describes versatility, the ability to adapt to environments of different styles and sizes and informal elegance.
Carpets in the foreground with Moroso
Moroso focuses on a renewed search for detail, a desire for muffled environments in which the decor is never neglected. The Sama by Golran carpet collection introduces for the first time the round shape in Moroso carpets, a shape that we discover versatile and decorative.
The minimal aesthetics of Living Divani
Living Divani remains faithful to its minimal aesthetic and presents an extension of the Sumo upholstered line designed by Piero Lissoni, which also includes benches, tables and an armchair. Extension also for the Moon line by Mist-o with the tables proposed in three new variants.
Gervasoni focuses on the outdoors
In addition to the new variants of the Loll sofa by Paola Navone, Gervasoni focuses heavily on the outdoors with the collaboration of the designers Elena Sanguankeo and Chiara Andreatti who sign the new collections. In the image, the outdoor collection GUNA by Chiara Andreatti with rugs, charpoys and tables for an ethnic-inspired ensemble.
OLuce bets on color
The iconic OLuce brand brings a flash of color with the new version of the Coupé, a lamp designed by Joe Colombo in 1967 which now also becomes Mini Coupé or a table, desk and bedside table version. 34 cm high, in glossy black, anodic bronze, mustard yellow and scarlet red color alternatives.
The magic lantern of Flos
There are many novelties introduced by Flos but perhaps the most suggestive is the In Vitro Unplugged by Philippe Starck. It is a magic lantern because the light source is practically invisible: it is an ultra-flat LED disc from which the light diffuses into the watertight borosilicate glass capsule. The lamp is rechargeable, portable and suitable for outdoor use.
