Carl Hansen Ch24 P

Sophisticated fabrics, colors, and materials for special and celebratory versions of 20th century design icons

2023 was a year of important reissues: from the wishbone chair by Hans J.Wegner to the lounge chair by Charles and Ray Eames, passing through Maralunga by Vico Magistretti and Togo by Michel Ducaroy, just to name a few. Design icons that have marked their formal evolution, telling the story of the time in which they were conceived and remaining up to date in both style and functionality. Because the 20th century, and particularly the second half of the century, was a period of evolution of the way of experiencing the home and therefore of designing it. Imagining furnishings that were closer to real needs, and to the spread of a new form of elegance in which high manufacturing meets experimental creativity. These re-editions are unique opportunities to discover the history of each project and to introduce a limited and special selection of iconic furnishings, lights, and accessories into your living context.

Carl Hansen & Søn Carl Hansen & Søn CH24P Chair Exclusive Edition – Thor 325

CH24P Chair Leather by Carl Hansen & Son Exclusive Edition for MOHD

The first edition of the famous wishbone chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 and put into production by Carl Hansen & Son starting from 1950 and without interruption until today. The design idea was to combine the backrest and armrests into a single element and was made possible by the steam wood bending techniques that were becoming widespread at the time. To give stability to the structure, Wegner decided to experiment with the Y shape from which the seat’s name derives. In the special edition, designed exclusively for MOHD, it is offered in two refined variants, both with leather seat in dark and light finish.

Vitra Vitra Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman – Phlox 983 / Palissandro Santos

Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman by Vitra in rosewood and Phlox fabric

When Charles and Ray Eames designed this seat in 1956, they proposed not only a totally innovative design but also a new way of use dedicated to comfort and relaxation. In this special edition, limited to winter 2023-2024, the armchair is offered with a rosewood shell and Phlox upholstery, a green ribbed velvet fabric that inspires warmth and elegance. The fabric was designed by Raf Simons for Kvadrat and is paired with pine green hardware.

Poltrona Frau Poltrona Frau Dezza 24 Armchair – Redevance

Dezza Redevance by Gio Ponti for Poltrona Frau

The re-edition of the Dezza armchair, designed by Gio Ponti in 1965, is an authentic archival operation. His name is a tribute to the architect’s manifesto house, which was located right in Via Dezza in Milan, furnished with the projects dearest to him. Among these also the seat that Poltrona Frau offers today with upholstery designed by Gio Ponti himself: it is called Redevance and is characterized by a pattern that recalls the designer’s graphic experimentation dedicated to the geometric shapes that recur in many of his projects.

Cassina Maralunga 50
Cassina Maralunga 50 Sofa

Maralunga 50 by Vico Magistretti for Cassina

In the 1970s the sofa changed its face to accommodate a more familiar and informal use compared to the classic bourgeois sofa. Maralunga by Vico Magistretti clearly represents this trend, devoted to comfort and captivating shapes: it features a backrest and armrests whose inclination can be adjusted. This possibility not only adapts the position to personal needs, but also gives it an attractive and innovative look. In the Maralunga 50 special edition, the sofa is available in Maralunga 50 colored nubuck, a bright and warm red, in the two or three-seater version.

Ligne Roset Ligne Roset Togo Armchair – La Toile Du Peintre

Togo Toile du Peintre by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset

The organic shapes, the many folds, the absence of armrests and the limited height make Togo an experimental and one-of-a-kind sofa. Which is enriched with a further decorative touch thanks to the Toile du Peintre fabric, the painter’s canvas, signed Pierre Frey in which the sofa is offered in a limited edition. To be combined with the armchair from the same collection for a lively and personal lounge corner.

Gubi Gubi 9602 Pierre Frey Edition Floor Lamp

Gubi 9602 by Paavo Tynell Pierre Frey

Pierre Frey also signs the special edition of the iconic 9602 lamp designed by Paavo Tynell in 1935. Nicknamed “Chinese hat” due to the shape of the lampshade which in the original version is in rattan and in this special edition it is in the elegant natural themed fabric Le Jardin du Palais by Pierre Frey.

Flos Flos Taccia Small Table Lamp

Taccia small matte white by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos

The shape of the Taccia lamp is one of a kind and this peculiarity is due to the starting idea of the Castiglioni brothers: turning a ceiling lamp upside down and transforming it into a table lamp. The second strong feature is the load-bearing element that supports the inclined diffuser and recalls, in its grooves, a Greek column. In this special edition, Taccia is in a matte white color that accentuates this resemblance even more.

Zanotta Zanotta Sciangai 50 Coat Hanger

Sciangai 50 by De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi for Zanotta

The Sciangai coat hanger has also accomplished a revolution in its own small way, offering a new design for the category. It was designed in 1973 and Paolo Lomazzi, one of its authors, commented on its genesis in this way: “Objects must enter into a relationship of sympathy with those who use them and be easy to use”. The objective is achieved, with this multicolored anniversary version which takes up the original chromatic approach, discovered in an archive sketch of the studio by Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla, Art Director of Zanotta.
